Australian independent retailer Toys and Tales has been recognised on the global stage in the Chicago Toy and Game Group's TAGIE Awards.
The retailer is one of ten finalists in the Most Innovative Retailer Award and is the only Australian to make an appearance in the category.
Owner Elizabeth Milford told Toy & Hobby Retailer that the business is thrilled to be nominated for the award.
"We are excited to be nominated for an international award and delighted to get attention as a shop in Australia!
"This recognition is priceless and is great for the staff as well as ourselves and the centre in which we operate.
"Brick and mortar sometimes feels a bit beleaguered in an online age and the award helps to showcase broadly the benefit of creating an exciting, intriguing space that people really want to explore.
"The toy and gift industry offers some fantastic products that we can showcase really well in the right space and it is an industry which is always innovating," she said.
The business is no stranger to winning awards, having taken out Toy & Hobby Retailer's own Toy Retailer of the Year Award seven times.
"Toy and Tales has been a multiple award winner in Australian retail," Innovation First VP of international sales Heath May said.
"They have proven a long-term vision for their stores, they continue to innovate within the independent retail space showing a point of difference and providing a true shopping experience for customers in their area," he said.
Voting in the TAGIE's is open the global industry and May adds that the Australian industry should get behind Milford and vote.
"Its’s not often that a colleague gets recognised on the world stage, to be nominated is an achievement in itself and Toy and Tales has some big competition from the UK, Ireland, Canada and USA.
"Supporting a fellow Australian shows that Australia can mix it with best.
"This speaks to our whole Australian industry; we have some great success stories as Australian manufacturers and now a retailer can be recognised.
"Everyone can vote in these awards and Toys and Tales are deserved nominees.
"Other nominated stores will be rallying votes in their respective suburbs or countries and we should also rally to support Toy and Tales," he said.
Toys and Tales is a finalist alongside some big retail names including Smyths, The Entertainer and Mastermind Toys.
Voting closes on 30 October.
