eBay Australia has reported strong growth in games and toy sales as more families stay home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to Toy & Hobby Retailer, eBay Australia's Sophie Onikul said that the puzzle category has seen significant growth.
"With Aussies preparing to spend more time at home, it's no surprise we’re seeing purchases of indoor activities spike on eBay.
"With big increases in the home entertainment category, we’re predicting there will be more people streaming and watching films than ever before. Televisions are one of our top bought items right now.
"But some of the largest growth is in more old-fashion fun with sales increasing for board games and building toys including Lego.
"Top board games include family favourite Monopoly as well as Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride and Articulate.
"There’s also been a 153 per cent year-on-year increase in puzzle sales as people seek new ways to stay entertained inside.
"The return to technology-free entertainment has grown over the past few years as parents attempt to limit kids’ screen time.
"And with Australians now spending more time at home, we expect to see more activities that not only keep families occupied – but encourage mindfulness and creativity – grow in popularity," she said.
