Australian supermarket, Woolworths, has released its reply to the Coles Little Shop campaign, with its 'Christmas Pop-Outs' collectibles.
Similarly to Little Shop, when customers spend $30 or more, they receive a buildable, cardboard, Christmas-themed character.
There is also a cardboard Christmas tree consumers can purchase to display their Pop-Outs in.
Managing director at Woolworths, Claire Peters, said that the Woolworths team spent a lot of time considering the environmental impact the pop-outs would have – something that the Little Shop campaign was heavily criticised about.
“We are really excited to be able to offer Australian families a small gift that captures the fun, imagination and festive spirit of the season with the ‘Woolworths Christmas Pop-Outs’.
“Christmas is all about spending quality time with family, friends and loved ones and this is a great way for everyone to get together to workshop, build and play with their favourite Christmas characters.
“Our team has also spent a great deal of time ensuring that we considered the environmental impact when putting this together and we are proud to say that the range is 100% Aussie made and fully recyclable.”
The Woolworths statement also said, “customers will also be able to see what they are getting as the Woolworths 'Christmas Pop-Outs' will not come in ‘blind plastic bags’ to help avoid duplication or disappointment and minimise waste.”
The collectibles became available on 14 November.
