Visitor numbers to the Spielwarenmesse were down 5.05 per cent this year, due to fears surrounding the novel coronavirus.
Official numbers from the event organisers state that 63,500 vistors attended the show this year, compared to 66,876 in 2019.
Exhibitor numbers remained relatively steady with 2,843 exhibitors from 70 countries exhibit at the 2020 show compared to 2,886 from 68 countries in 2019.
Further into the visitor statistics, 66 per cent of attendees were international visitors, with those from the UK and USA demonstrating the biggest increases.
Spielwarenmesse eG CEO Ernst Kick said that the despite concerns around coronavirus, the show still set a great precedent for the rest of the year.
"The high proportion of international visitors and the positive mood among exhibitors corroborates our forward-looking approach to the event.
"Venturing down the right track early on, we set our sights on leading the industry into a new and successful business year," he said.
92 per cent of exhibitors have already pledged their return in 2021 when the fair will run from 27 to 31 January.
