The winners of the second annual Slow Toy awards, founded by UK-based toy, game and gift distributor Thierry Bourret, were announced at Harrods last week.
Bourret says he founded the awards to celebrate toys that will live on long after childhood is over – to be put in the attic and brought out again for another generation.
The awards judging criteria stipulates that items for consideration must be available in independent stores, inspire the mind, be a well made toy and promise true play value. Toys cannot require batteries or be made solely from plastic, should stand the test of time.
This year's winners include: the Moover Toys Doll's Pram; the Activity Cube from East Coast Nursery; Tiny Trike from Galt Toys; Haba’s My First Play World Fire Brigade (distributed in Australia by Rose & Lily); the Multimodels 15 Model Set from Meccano (distributed by Toy Traders); Fat Brain Toys' Twig, and the Around the World train set from Bigjigs (distributed by Modern Brands).
