The AGHA has announced that its Sydney Gift Fair in February has been cancelled due to the ongoing implications from COVID-19.
Due to the continued community-based cases in Sydney and the state border closures, the organisation reluctantly decided to cancel the show, which was set to take place at Sydney Olympic Park in February.
In a statement the AGHA said that while the show could still potentially operate under the NSW Health guidelines, there would likely be a reduced number of exhibitors and attendees.
"This would result in a less than optimal outcome for the event and all those participating.
"Without question, 2020 will go down in history as a year of unforeseen and continually evolving challenges.
"Our industry has had to pivot and explore new opportunities, with no written textbook to plot a course through these challenges.
"The decision to cancel has not been made lightly," the AGHA continued.
"The health and safety of all staff, exhibitors and buyers is paramount to AGHA and is the only responsible outcome given the current circumstances," the organisation said.
Despite the show being off the cards, the Sydney Gift Fair Exhibitor Directory will still be distributed with the February issue of the AGHA industry catalogue.
The next opportunity to connect at an AGHA fair will be the Melbourne Gift Fair, which is scheduled to go ahead from 31 July – 04 August 2021 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
