The APAC division of Viacom has announced that an indoor Nickelodeon theme park will make its debut at the Mall of China in Chongqing in 2020.
The theme park is set to break world records for its new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles roller coaster as it will have the longest track, highest drop, most inversions and fastest maximum speed for an indoor roller coaster. The park will also host the first tilting drop-tower attraction in Asia.
14 of Nickelodeon's brands will feature across 29 attractions at the park and include the likes of SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Paw Patrol.
In terms of numbers, the developers – Jiayuan Group, China Creation Group and Triple Five Group – are expected to invest more than $750 million into the shopping centre, of which the theme park will take up 92,000 square feet (8,547 square metres).
“Creating immersive on-the-ground consumer experiences remains an important part of our business, especially in Asia,”Mark Whitehead, president and managing director, APAC, Viacom International Media Networks said in a statement. “As we continue to grow the footprint of Nickelodeon theme parks across Asia Pacific, I am confident this will also open up new opportunities for the Nickelodeon brand and for our partners across multiple platforms in this important Chinese market.”
The announcement comes after Turner APAC announced in June that a Cartoon Network theme park is in the works and is set to open in the region (Bali) in 2020.
