The Licensing Industry Merchandiser's Association (LIMA) has announced the list of finalists for its coveted International Licensing Awards.

For the first time in the awards' 33 year history, submissions and judging were held online, hence making the program more global than ever.

The judging panel consisted of almost 150 executives from 18 different countries. In total, the program received 622 submissions from 19 different countries, marking a new record. Out of the 622 submissions, 154 nominees were chosen.

The Australian businesses that made the cut include; stationery retailer, Typo (owned by Cotton On) for its Harry Potter stationery and gift range; toy business Headstart International for its Sesame Street feature plush; major supermarket, Coles, in partnership with Unga for Little Shop; licensing firm, Merchantwise, for The Simpsons and Krispy Kreme doughnuts collaboration; the Sydney Opera House Trust for its collaboration with Sheridan; and, Dreamworld theme park in partnership with Dreamworks and The Sudden Impact! Entertainment Co for its Trolls Funhouse initiative.

LIMA president, Maura Regan, said that the scope of the finalists represents the creativity of the global licensing industry.

“This elite group of nominees is truly representative of the global licensing community, showcasing the creativity and innovation that is part of our industry’s DNA.

“We look forward to announcing the winners on June 4 in Las Vegas, but today we celebrate all of this year’s nominees – to be among this group is a mark of excellence in and of itself.”

LIMA members will voice their opinions and help select the winners, when the member voting opens in a few weeks. Then in May, global licensing professionals will have their say in the Community Choice Award.

The winners will be unveiled at the Licensing Expo in Vegas, while the inductees into the Hall of Fame and the Rising Stars will also be announced.
