BBC Worldwide, together with Jodie Whittaker, the first actress to play the iconic science fiction character Doctor Who, teased fans of the series with a glimpse of the new logo and insignia for the brand at the broadcaster's annual showcase event in Liverpool.
The BBC commissioned the creation of a new Doctor Who logo to mark the new era of the decades-old franchise, a undertaking made even more considerable when the worldwide reach of the franchise's powerful original trademark is taken into account.
Creative agency Little Hawk, was tasked to create the new designs in conjunction with series showrunner, Chris Chibnall, and executive producer, Matt Strevens.
Matthew Herbert created the sound for the animated logo, which launched with a 10 second animation that features the Tardis blazing a trail through the logo.
“The Doctor Who logo and insignia are the quintessential signifier for the brand,” Rafaela Perera, BBC Worldwide executive creative director, said. “Our aim was to create modern and elegant designs that are anchored in the things that we love most about Doctor Who.”
All official Doctor Who merchandise featuring the new logo is now available at selected retailers.
